Hello from Koh Samui
Well we have just finished our second day in Koh Samui but only just catching up on our sleep and getting into the Koh Samui pattern.
Our flight from Brisbane to Bangkok was long and boring. Last time we came here our plane had individual TVs which allowed us to choose what we wanted to watch but this plane just had screens scattered around the plane which was not good. First movie was Tangled (boring) second Harry Potter (I almost cried when this came on) and last movie, I am not even sure what that was called. Otherwise, we had children on our plane too which made sleeping hard. Craig managed to find 3 seats to sleep on for a while but lucky him – the kids woke him up anyway. Can’t really complain though, they were pretty well behaved considering they were on a 9 hour flight with nothing really to do!!
We thought that we might stay in the Bangkok airport overnight waiting for our connecting flight to Koh Samui but we found out quickly that we were not allowed. It didn’t take long for someone to sell us a room for the night though, which was relatively cheap and obviously cheap when we got there! Driving to the hotel instantly brought back all my memories of Thailand. They are crazy drivers over here and it always seems like your driving into no mans land, especially in the dark!!! The room was fine though and gave us an opportunity to have a shower and get some sleep – although, I didn’t really sleep – just so worried that we would miss our flight in the morning.
We finally arrived in Koh Samui at around 7.30am which is 10.30am Brisbane time (24 hours after we left home) but we were not able to check into our room at the Ark Bar until 2pm. We managed to kill time by buying a pack of cards and commenced the Ark Bar Shit Off. Unfortunately, 2 days in – Craig is on top by like 6 games so I have to make some back tomorrow! Getting into our room at 2pm was just bliss. Long shower each and then to bed! We slept basically the whole night though but still woke up this morning feeling like we could sleep that time all over again.
We went to breakfast at our hotel restaurant, which is on the beach, and then back to our room. We had anther 3 hour nap and then went to a new bar that wasn’t here last time called the Bondi Bar and Grill. It looks really good there and we discovered that they play the NRL so we will be there on Friday night to hopefully watch the Broncos play!! They also play some NRL games at The Islander Bar so we will be there Saturday afternoon to watch the Panthers game. We had lunch at The Islander today and I had the most amazing chicken noodle soup!!! Craig has stuck to Craig foods like Hamburgers and Wedges but the longer we are here and the more places we eat at, I am sure he will start venturing out on some new tastes! After eating breakfast, lunch and dinner and drinks along the way we have only spent about $60 today – ahhh how Thailand is so cheap.
It has been a great day of eating, drinking, resting and reading and we are looking forward to many more of these days to come!!! All in all so far we have pretty much just slept but hey, don’t have to be anywhere else right?
Hope all is well at home and we will check in again soon with some more of our Thailand adventures!!!
Love Mel and Craig
